Overview
Two Dots is a masterpiece of minimalism, but even the best classics need an interface that matches modern mobile standards. My redesign focuses on two pillars: radical UI simplification and the introduction of the Artist Series. By transforming the game’s background into a curated gallery for global illustrators, the game stops being just a puzzle and becomes a platform for discovery. This system turns the map and the gameplay into a dynamic canvas, increasing the product’s shareability and opening new doors for strategic partnerships with the creative community.
The Challenge
Problem to solve
The main challenge was to modernize a legacy UI without losing the "zen" essence that defines Two Dots. I had to solve the visual clutter of the original map and create a seamless transition between the level selection and the gameplay. From a product perspective, the goal was to find a reason for players to return beyond the mechanics: emotional connection through art. The interface needed to be invisible enough to let the guest artist's work shine, yet intuitive enough to improve the overall player flow.
Process
My approach
The redesign began by stripping back the UI to its core components, using a more contemporary, rounded design language that feels tactile and responsive. For the Artist Series, I developed a dynamic background system where the illustrator’s work persists from the map into the active level, creating a unified visual experience. I also implemented a new set of micro-interactions: haptic-aligned animations and subtle transitions that provide instant feedback, making every "dot connection" feel more satisfying and physically grounded.
